Teaming up again, Sam Kaufman and I are riding out the unofficial “end” of tarpon season by fishing this year’s Gold Cup Tarpon Tournament. (April through June are thought of as the prime tarpon months. But heart-pumping silver king action can be found well into the fall, so don’t scratch them off your to-do list this summer!) In keeping with our strategy for the Don Hawley tarpon tournament a couple of weeks ago, we are on pace for a-tarpon-a-day. Yesterday we made the scoreboard with this weight fish – measuring in at a little over 90lbs. (Weight is determined by a formula using length and girth measurements). It gave my angler quite a fight before we measured and safely released it. Weather this week looks like it’ll bob between clear calm skies, and the occasional pop-up shower. Just the right steamy recipe for catching tarpon!
