Tarpon before permit

Tarpon demand respect, thus the saying, “Bow to the Silver King!” So excuse the fuzzy phone picture. It hardly gives that whopper due credit. But it was all I had time for yesterday as I blazed through a busy half-day charter where we went 2 for 2 on tarpon, among a smattering of other less coveted (but sporty and fun to catch) rod-benders. Once off the water I prepped and packed for the lower Keys, where I’ll spend the next three days guiding in the March Merkin Tournament, where permit are the target species. We’re off to a wet and windy start, with gusts up to 30 miles per hour this morning. Not every day is perfect for fishing, but every day spent fishing is perfect. Stay tuned to see how it all turns out.
