Tarpon demand respect, thus the saying, “Bow to the Silver King!” So excuse the fuzzy phone picture. It hardly gives that whopper due credit. But it was all I had time for yesterday as I blazed through a busy half-day charter where we went 2 for 2 on tarpon, among a smattering of other less coveted (but sporty and fun to catch) rod-benders. Once off the water I prepped and packed for the lower Keys, where I’ll spend the next three days guiding in the March Merkin Tournament, where permit are the target species. We’re off to a wet and windy start, with gusts up to 30 miles per hour this morning. Not every day is perfect for fishing, but every day spent fishing is perfect.
