Meanwhile, in the Fishing Capital of the world, Islamorada, Florida Keys…
The weather has been glorious, and recently I had a half day of fishing booked on a glass calm, Chamber of Commerce-type day. After a great morning casting to laid-up tarpon, tailing redfish and schools of monster Jack Crevalle, I called my wife, Kristine, to come out and play on the boat for the afternoon. She packed up the dogs, brought the camera, and put on some sunglasses and a hat and off we went to the beautiful backcountry of the Everglades National Park. As I poled along in slick calm conditions, we spotted rolling tarpon and “finning” permit. The scene was so surreal, you could hardly tell the horizon from the sky. Kris took some great photos of some of the permit we observed swimming in the backcountry near Islamorada.
So if the weather is getting you down wherever you are, think about a trip to the Keys and just maybe you too can freeze some warm memories into your brain like these photos of the wily permit carelessly wandering the flats of the Florida Keys.
